Ingham Institute Chairman Terry Goldacre says, “As Darryl Harkness prepares for his retirement, we are fortunate to have a solid transition period to introduce Stephen Thompson as CEO of the Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research. We are excited to welcome Stephen at this pivotal juncture as the Institute commences enacting our 2023-2026 strategic plan.

“Stephen brings a wealth of healthcare and commercial experience, fully aligned to our vision, mission and strategy. His leadership will hasten the delivery and impact of our mission to combine local purpose, national significance, and global impact, by making and applying discoveries that translate to measurable improvements in health and healthcare, and radically improve the quality of life for all.”

Stephen is looking forward to bringing his broad leadership experience from a variety of industries to the Ingham Institute to help continue our vision of inspiring health and transforming care. “I am impressed by the alignment of purpose and well-defined strategy focused on improving the health and wellbeing of our diverse and unique community in South Western Sydney.”

“I look forward to developing my previous experience in the healthcare ecosystem, into the service delivery of our Ingham Institute research. My ultimate objective will be to lead a culture of innovation whilst accelerating and growing a large team as we expand across multiple sites,” said Stephen.

Stephen commenced with the Institute on Monday 22 May in preparation for the retirement of long-standing CEO Darryl Harkness who will retire on 30 June 2023.
